The RFJM-6MR jacket maker turns fired .22 LR cases into
6mm jackets for 65 grain lead tip bullets. It uses the
same die as the 224 jacket maker, with a 6mm flaring punch.
The head is drawn to .219-.220 diameter to remove the rim
and iron it smooth. But instead of pushing the jacket
through the die, it is ejected back out the mouth of the
die. A punch is used inside the jacket that flares the
jacket mouth. The flared mouth forms a seal in the core
seating operation, which allows the jacket to be expanded
by the pressure of seating the lead core, so it becomes
a full 6mm diameter.
The 6mm rimfire jacket bullet is more limited in weight
range than the 224 due to the need to expand the jacket
so much. The lead has to be seated longer than the jacket
with a full bore-size punch, in order to make a seal and
expand the jacket from the pressure.
