The JSWC-2-S jacketed semi-wadcutter 2-die set is
used to make either lead or jacketed SWC style bullets.
The SWC designation indicates a bullet with a lead nose
formed against the end of a movable punch. The actual shape
can be anything that is a reverse of the punch itself, from
flat to cupped, round nose to Keith style.
For handguns, the most typical nose shape is either Keith
(a truncated conical design) or 3/4-E round nose. Other
standard shapes include conical, button-nose wadcutter,
and target wadcutter. Base shapes with jacketed bullets
can be flat, dish, or cup, but generally a hollow base punch
is only used with lead (since it would tend to penetrate
the jacket by stretching it too far).
Custom shapes can also be ordered for an additional cost.
Although the JSWC-2-S set can be used for lead bullets, it
is generally more efficient (faster) to make lead bullets
in the LSWC-1-S die, which combines both the weight adjusting
core swage bleed holes with the final diameter of the core
seater die. The JSWC-2-S die set can make more nearly
perfect shapes because weight control and shape control
are done in separate dies, allowing for more pressure as
required in the second stroke. From left to right: TWC
(target wadcutter), BWC (button nose wadcutter), conical,
Keith, Auto-Loader (AL), 3/4-E ogive, and 1-E ogive.
