SDD-2-S ogive serrator die allows the serration of the forward or open end of the jacket, with adjustable serration length. This die is most often used to obtain good expansion at low velocity while retaining the shank section under high velocity impact. Unlike the SDD-1-S full length serrator die, the bullet is inserted down, into the ram-mounted die, while the external punch fits into the punch holder. The jacket is serrated after the core has been seated. The internal punch ejects the jacket on the down stroke. The SDD-2-S is adjustable so that only the open end of the jacket needs to be serrated, leaving the shank and base intact and unchanged. This is ideal for use on RBT (rebated boattail base) bullets. The internal punch is a loose fit in the die and is guided by the jacket slipped over the punch tip. It serves only as an ejector, and does not play any part in the serration process. That takes place when the external (top) punch pushes the jacket past the sharp cutter points in the die body. Be sure to read the instructions sent with this die before attempting to use it. The die and punch can be damaged by incorrect operation, which is easily avoided by following the proper operating procedure.
