The Ogive Serrator SDD-2-H fits the type -H presses, and
allows one to put jacket serrations just in the ogive
or any desired length of the jacket, without having to
serrate the entire length.
This is accomplished by pushing the jacket into a ram-
mounted die, with an external punch mounted in the
floating punch holder (head of press). An internal ejection
punch pushes the jacket back out again. The jacket
enters the die open-end first, so you can push it as far
into the die as you wish, and serrate only that portion which
is pushed past the "crown-of-thorns" arrangement (sharp
pins which make thin, shallow cuts in the jacket OD).
The purpose of this is to make the ogive open up more
quickly and evenly, but to retain the shank portion or
slow the opening after a certain amount of expansionl.
