The RBTO-4-S rebated boattail, open tip 4-die set makes RBT bullets, which have higher BC than flat base with up to 15% improvement in muzzle-blast induced bullet dispersion compared to conventional boattails. The RBT shoulder or step is typically about .015 inches. It acts as a gas seal in the bore, and provides for deflection of the muzzle blast gasses, so that the bullet shoots through the clear air in the center of a ring of gas. With a conventional BT base, the muzzle gasses tend to flow around the base and follow the bullet outline, breaking up in turbulence ahead of the bullet. The difference shows up as a tighter group compared to the BT, with higher BC than a flat base.
