This is the Oil-lite bushing which is press fit into the end of the CSP-1 S-press ram, and through which the ram-to-toggle pin fits. (Moving this pin between sets of toggle ram holes changes the stroke length and power ratio of the press.)

The removal and replacement of this solid bearing or bushing is done with a stepped punch. The smaller diameter of the punch fits closely inside the bushing. The larger diameter just fits through the hole that secures the bushing. The shoulder between the two diameters is the same width as the wall thickness of the bushing. Tapping or pressing the end of this punch applies force to the bushing to shove it out of the ram or to press a new one in.

The bearing should be lubricated with a light gun oil such as Corbin Five-Star Gun Oil. The best way to lubricate it is to remove the ram from the press and soak the end of the ram with the bearing in a small can of hot oil (95-120 degrees F). This expands the pores in the bearing material and helps it adsorb some of the oil. But just adding a drop to the ID of the bearing, with the toggle pin removed, is sufficient.

Under normal conditions, the bearing should not require replacement. But after many years of hard use, it is possible that the bearing will wear and become loose on the toggle pin. Should this condition develop, it is also likely that the ram bearings may be worn. They can be pressed out and re-installed. It is better to send the press to Corbin for reburbishing, because improvements and new features may have been developed over the years since the press was purchased. These can be selectively incorporated in the rebuild, as appropriate. It is usually lower cost to have these upgrades installed during a rebuild.
