This is a long .45 caliber jacket with relatively thin walls, ideal for lower velocity rifles such as the 45-70 with lighter weights, and for heavy weight pistol jackets that will still expand at lower velocity. They also redraw nicely for making long 44 (.429), 40 (10mm), and similar sizes for heavy handgun or light to medium rifle weights in that range of diameters.
The jacket wall thickness is 0.013 inches (0.0125 at the mouth). Diameter is 0.448 inches. A core of 0.422 inches just fits (air-tight) into the ID. A core of .400 to .410 is a better choice, especially for bonding. Use .390 diameter lead wire in order to fit into the proper core swage die.
The weight of the jacket is 33.5 grains. Bullets of 250 to 425 grains can be made using conventional open tip, hollow point, and lead tip construction. Up to 450 grains is practical with a round nose lead tip design. This makes the bullet work well for light to medium 45 rifles, 450 Bushmaster, and heavier bullets for the .45 Colt, .45 Auto, .454 Casull, .455 Webley, and similar calibers.
This jacket is being offered as a trial run, to find out whether enough people want it to make it worth stocking! So often people say they'd buy a certain product if only someone else would invest in making it available, and then they don't. So we're offering a limited run to "test the market". If they sell well, we'll make them a standard inventory item! The "between the lines" message here is that if you have a need for the jacket it might be a good idea to stock up now, to assure your own supply. Once we have seen the sales over time, we'll update the info about the future stocking plans.
