CSW-1-S core swage die is used to adjust the weight
of a cast or cut core, and bring the diameter up to a
close fit for the particular jacket ID to be used. Core
swage dies have bleed holes in the side of the die to
extrude surplus lead. Adjustment of weight to less than
1/2 of 1% of total core weight is practical.
If you know the diameter of core you wish to produce, enter
it above. If you know the jacket wall thickness, subtract
2 times the jacket wall thickness from the caliber and
enter .001 to .002 inches less than this as your core
diameter. If you do not know either of these, enter the
bullet caliber and write "cal, jacketed" or "cal, lead"
so we know approximately how big a core you need.
Most tubing jackets have .035 wall thickness, so the core
will be .070 less than the caliber, less another .002 for
clearance. Example, if you want to make a .458 bullet with
tubing jackets, the core would need to be .458 - .072 =
.386 or smaller in order to fit inside the jacket. But if
you want to make a lead .458 bullet, the core could be
.456 and still fit easily into the point forming die.
