CCB-4 Core Bond is used to form bonded core bullets. The advantage of bonded cores is nearly 100% weight retention after radical expansion. Bonding has been the basis of hundreds of successful commercial ventures in bullet making, and provides the best possible performance by combining high density, soft expanding lead cores with tough copper jackets in an inseparable unit.

To bond a core to a jacket, the core and jacket are first cleaned well to remove any lube film. A core of lead, which fits loosely in the jacket (important) is dropped into the vertically supported jacket. A drop of flux is put into the jacket, and the jacket is heated until the lead melts. After cooling in air, the bonded core and jacket are cleaned again in boiling water with a small amount of baking soda.

Core Bond is not a glue or a solder. It lowers the surface tension of molten lead so that the molecules can penetrate into the copper matrix, and it removes surface oxides and carbonates so pure lead and copper surfaces are in close contact at elevated temperature to allow this infiltration. The result is a virtually unbreakable bond that peels the lead core back with the expanding bullet jacket and keeps the core from separating.
