The PUNCH-HL is an adjustable punch made for calibers over .375-in, which requires special internal construction to fit the punch holder of the CSP-2 and CHP-1 presses.

These punches are most often used for the JM-1-H copper tubing jacket maker, or as external punches with the CS-1-H or RBT-2 (BT-1 and BT-2 dies) set for seating cores with larger diameter jackets of various lengths. The function of the adjustable shouldered punch is to stop forward flow of the jacket material under seating pressure, which is most useful when seating cores in tubing jackets and certain thick walled jackets where the material tries to extrude as the core is seated. This can cause separation of the jacket at a RBT junction and variation in the length of the jacket after seating.

The adjustable sleeve on the punch creates a shoulder or stop against which the end of the jacket will bear, preventing it from extruding forward and solving the problem. Not all jackets do this. Most of the harder drawn commercial jackets do not, but whenever a problem with separation and forward flow takes place, this punch is often the best solution.
