The Pro-Swage Kit gives you everything you need to make lead swc style paper patch or straight-sided lead bullets in your sturdy reloading press (7/8-14 thread, RCBS-type t-slot ram).

The kit includes:
  1. PRO-1-R Pro-Swage in any standard Corbin caliber
  2. CM-4a 4-cavity adjustable weight core mold
  3. CSL-2 Swage Lube to reduce friction, prevent rusting
  4. PUNCH-R weight adjusting punch in die's caliber
  5. Instructions
Just specify the diameter, nose and base shape (custom sizes, shapes = $70 additional). Remember to specify the bullet diameter before paper patching, if you intend to paper patch (for instance, a .448 is typically used for .458 patched size in a 45-70).

For lead bullets shot full diameter without patching, you may wish to try the MSL-11 Moly Spray Lube, CDL-16 dip lube (a clear, non-flammable dip), or the HTC-3 knurling tool to apply lube grooves for more conventional type lubes.

The .410 Shotgun slug is easily made using a 3/4-E nose and a HB base punch. An airgun pellet can also be swaged using the appropriate custom size for your chamber (most .22 airguns work with a .218 to .221 pellet, but the size is critical for best accuracy and must fit perfectly into the chamber). A paper-patched .45 rifle (such as 45-70 or 45-110) normally uses a .448 diameter bullet with 1-E nose and cup base.

Air Gun Pellets
For air gun pellets, the typical configuration is a cup base with a 3/4-E nose or a cup base and Keith nose shape. Lower pressure guns may use a hollow base, which is deeper, and high pressure PCP guns may use a flat or a shallow dish base. Although most of our illustrations show a dish base as coming to the edge with the dish shape, we have been making a small margin or flat based area just at the edge to help avoid dents and dings in the edge from handling. Bringing a curve right to the full diameter leaves sort of "knife edge" effect that is more easily damaged than having a 0.015 to 0.020 wide flat and then the start of the dish shape.

Dish, cup, and hollow bases are relative terms. The dish means a shallow curve, usually less than a quarter of the caliber deep. The cup refers to a concave curve that is deeper than the dish base, but usually not more than a half caliber in depth. The hollow base is any concave base shape that is more than a half caliber deep. Sometimes a hollow base can be made with a more or less conical shape to thin the walls or "skirts" around it, and to remove additional weight. The hollow base makes the same length of bullet weigh less, or allows a longer bullet to be lighter. Changing the size of the hollow base is a way to design a more stable, longer projectile without adding too much weight. Both hollow bases and hollow points need a reasonable amount of "draft angle" or taper so that the bullet does not "stick" on the parallel sides of the punch that creates the cavity. Making the sides too straight and parallel wiht the axis of the bullet usually causes the bullet to be difficult to remove from the punch.
