J-30-125 Versatile Benchrest bullet jackets are ideal for both hunting and high level benchrest competition. They are precisely drawn with a thin forward section tapering back to a thicker base for good expansion control, and heat treated for ductility. Packaged 250 per bag. J-30-125

The proper size of core seating punch for open tip bullets with the lead seated at the first 1/4 of length from the open end is 0.277-0.2775 inches (about the same size as a .270 caliber bullet or just slightly less, so a short .270 jacket would slip into the forward section of the .308 jacket.) The jacket tapers and requires smaller diameter punches as you go deeper. A lead core of 0.251 fits all the way tothe bottom of the jacket. A core of .258 inch diameter, which fits some of the thinner jackets on the market, will not fit properly and will trap air. This means that a punch which fits almost all the way to the bottom of the jacket would have to be just slightly smaller.

The OD of the jacket before swaging and expansion in the core seat die is .306 inches. The core seat punch is a force fit into the jacket to seal pressure even after the jacket has expanded. To help with removal and ejection of the jacket during core seating, use little or no lube on the OD of the jacket, and wipe a little lube on the punch. Hold the pressure for a second at the top of the stroke to allow expansion to finish. Don't try to eject before the jacket and core have expanded (that is, don't go half way toward finishing and try to eject because the jacket will still be stuck on the punch at that point).

Short cores will require a smaller punch to avoid sticking. To use the same punch for lighter bullets drop a 1/4 inch "bullet ball" into the jacket to hold the lead further toward the jacket mouth. See the BB-1/4 listing for bags of 1000 bullet balls.

The dimensions of the jacket wall are given in the above drawing.
