This is the 7/8-14 OD threaded, 5/8-24 ID threaded black adapter body which holds an -R type die insert and secures the internal punch as well. It is offered without die, punch, ejector rod, or lock nuts as a replacement part, or for experimenters to build their own dies. (The image shows an adapter with the die and lock nuts, for illustration only. This catalog number is for the black, threaded adapter body only.)

The adapter fits into the head of a standard 7/8-14 reloading press. The ID is machined so that a 1/4-inch knock out rod can be used through the top, to press down against an internal punch head for ejection of the bullet. The 5/8-inch diameter die is threaded 5/8-24 to screw into the opening of the adapter. Between the top of the die and the upper end of the adapater is a space for the internal punch (ejection punch). The punch is aligned and guided up and down to push the component or bullet out of the die mouth.

The adapters are black oxide finished and oiled, ready to be used as replacements should the original be damaged. The most common form of damage is the use of pliers, pip-wrenches or hammers where no such tool should be used. To turm the die one should use finger pressure only, or if for some reason more force is needed, a padded jaw plier or a piece of leather belt can be used, but never the steel teeth of an adjustable grasping tool like pliers. This will mar the checkered top or damage the threads. Even if it doesn't ruin the adapter, it will leave unsightly scars that speak of inexperienced handling by someone with low mechanical skill level. If the adapter cannot be turned by hand, something is not right. Applying more force probably isn't the solution.
